The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown

The book opens at the scene of a murder, where the curator of the Lourve Museum in France is found dead. His body is positioned to resemble the DaVince Man. It is later discovered that the victim, in his last moments of life, positioned himself that manner and left several clues for the investigators.

The "hero" in the story is an American college professor, well known for his study of religious icons and artifacts. He is summoned to the scene to help with the investigation. He was in Paris for a convention and was supposed to have met with the victim earlier that evening but the plans were cancelled.

The antagonist, the local police chief is somewhat put off by his "intrusion." Since the hero is the first to arrive at the scene, he immediately is tagged as a suspect. There are, however, other things that come in the investigation that would lead one to believe that he could be the murderer, though we the reader knows differently. The hero is quickly detained, but he escapes with the help of one of the detectives, who believes his alibi.
