Holt, Feb 2004, 25.00, 259 pp. ISBN: 080507211X A year has passed since the nuns found the injured American near their convent. They took her in, helped her heal, and named her Eve when it was obvious that she suffered from amnesia due to a shot to her head. She also learned that she must have given birth, but has no idea where her child is or its sex. Now that she has physically healed, Eve wants to learn what really happened to her and more important who she is. She arrives at the convent only to find every nun except one has been murdered. She locates her few belongings from last year with the only interesting item being a ticket stub for the Tangier-Algeciras Ferry. Stealing the identity of one of the deceased sisters, Eve travels to Tangier. She trusts no one, feeling paranoid that everyone is watching her. Eve suspects those who act friendly towards her, but still heeds advice that sends her to fellow American, Brian Haverman. He insists that she was his brother's lover. They travel to Marrakech where her enemies believe she possesses something that they are willing to torture and even kill to obtain. Fans will think Ludlum (especially with the recent movie) with this exciting thriller starring a wonderful protagonist who ensures that the plot freshens up the trite amnesiac victim in peril. The story line is exciting as Eve bounces from one villain to another, distrusting everyone even her alleged allies; readers will cheer the heroine on hoping she will regain her memory and kick butt. Jenny Siler provides a terrific taut thriller that should make her an EASY MONEY favorite to gain a SHOT of new fans seeking her works. Harriet Klausner | ||
