Running Out of Time by Margaret Peterson Haddix

Many different families are living in the 18th century---or at least they think they are. The people are really "brainwashed" into believing they still do. Every move is watched, yet they don't know it. One young girl is told of the real world and it's up to her to save everyone else because there is a deadly disease but they have no cure. Can she go out into the city in which she is not used to, get the cure for the disease, and get back to the "18th century" to save the others in time?
