27-year old Neeve Kearny finds herself caught up in the disappearance and murder of columnist Ethel Lambston.
Ethel, it seems, was on the verge of publishing rather damaging and scandalous information that would rock the fashion world. It is a world that Neeve herself is no stranger to, as she owns and operates her own fashion boutique on Madison Ave. No one would ever really admit they liked the abrasive and opinionated Lambston, but Neeve does feel sorry that the woman has met such a terrible end. Neeve was Ethel's go-to-gal for her wardrobe purchases and fashion consulting, and it is this very fact that makes Neeve a danger to the killer. Further complicating matters is Neeve's father, Myles, retired US Attorney and ex-police Commissioner. He has never gotten over the murder of his wife, Renata, which occured many years ago when Neeve was a child. The man suspected of the crime, mob boss Nicki Sepetti, has served his time for other offenses and has been released. It is a constant torment to Myles that Renata's murderer was never brought to justice; that he could never prove Sepetti was responsible. With Sepetti out of prison, Neeve knows Myles fears she could be harmed, and is frustrated by his unfounded worry. But a hit has been called on Neeve - contracted by someone desperate to ensure evil deeds remains buried. With the hired assassin stalking Neeve's every move, perhaps Myles' concern for her safety isn't so unfounded and paranoid after all... In 'While My Pretty One Sleeps', lots of tantalizing red-herrings are dangled before the reader, but they will not be able to guess the shocking and twisted motives of the actual murderer until the final pages! | ||
