Tess and Nick used to be an item, until she broke up with him, basically for being too uptight. But, she keeps thinking about him, even when consoling her best friend on her recent heartaches, as well as her own employment concerns.
Tess grew up in a commune and has always followed the thinking of one wise man who gave her, her “Cinderella Story” which she has tried to base her entire life on. Nick is working in a law firm of his best friend's father, who seems to only want to make family a partner. But, Nick is their best lawyer; his own son has more interest in what he can get away with than his profession, while Nick is driven to be the best. So what happens when Nick needs to produce a fiancé for a weekend trying to woo a new client? He goes to the one woman he can't seem to forget. Tess and makes her a deal. This is where the fun begins, as all Crusie novels have a light hearted side. Imagine Tess's surprise when at dinner the client reads from his new book, and it is a version of her “Cinderella Story” but, with an unhappy ending. She is outraged and sets out to expose the client for the fraud that she thinks he is. At the same time she is also trying to sort out her feelings for Nick. | ||
