Boris, "King B.," 34-year-old wunderkind film director, is intrigued by the idea of shooting a fully pornographic art movie. Producer Sid Krassman finds a deal to make it happen: the tiny European kingdom of Liechtenstein will front $3 million for the production IF it is filmed there AND shown only there for 10 years. (The idea is to recoup their investment in tourist traffic.) The crazy film crew lines up various veteran European stars and aspiring American actors hoping to break out of their familiar roles, while keeping the true nature of the project secret from the American backers. Of course, the local religious leader, Cardinal Hans von Kopf, doesn't take too kindly to the goings-on in Vaduz, and tries to sabotage the production. This madcap comic novel by the author of "Candy" and "Dr. Strangelove," first published in 1970, is neither as shocking nor as entertaining as it probably hoped to be, but it has its moments. | ||
