Julian's House by Judith Hawkes

Sally and David Curtiss are a newlywed couple with some problems in their relationship. They are also parapsycologists, who have recently purchased a house which is rumored to be haunted. They plan on studying the house and trying to find any evidence of supernatural activity there. Sally is a reluctant psychic, so when none of the Curtiss' hi-tech equipment shows any signs of supernatural activity, David suspects that Sally senses something in the house.

Secretly, David is jealous of Sally's psychic ability and wants to have a psychic expierence himself. As the Curtiss' research the house's strange and mysterious history, the house itself becomes a kind of character in the novel. It induces dreams that reveal the Curtiss' hidden fears and desires, and the novel eventually builds to an ambiguous and disturbing climax.
