| Dahlia Montgomery, a half-Filipina from a small Texas town, was catapulted to grief and shame when her husband died in a car accident. Her husband was not alone in the car, Dahlia discovered he died with his mistress. Instead of succumbing to misery, Dahlia went with her friend Piggy to Idaho where they got summer jobs as survey assistants. Dahlia was really excited for the change in scenery and looking forward to keeping busy with survey work in the Idaho mountains. Then Luke McRae literally bumped into her in the survey office. Luke was attracted to her and did not waste time letting Dahlia know it. Dahlia tried to fight her attraction to Luke but she started to fall in love with him. Luke was everything her husband was not; but he has some problems --an ex-wife determined to wreck havoc in his life, a disapproving mother and a son suffering from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. These problems prove too much for Dahlia and Luke's fledgling relationship. Dahlia went back to Texas, not knowing that she was carrying Luke's baby.
