In England, wannabe singer Stephanie Glassman raises her two and half year old Jake by herself as her son's dad Albert Rossi is a stuntman in Hollywood. Stephanie currently works as a temporary pianist performing at Debenham's during the Yuletide season. While performing at the store, rising superstar Frank Waterman arrives with his fiancée on his arm. Frank and Stephanie performed in a show together over seven years ago.

Not long after that Frank arrives again sans his girlfriend. He asks Stephanie to go out with him saying seeing her let him know he was marrying the wrong person. Albert comes to town to surprise Jake for Christmas, but pulls a bigger shocker on Stephanie when he proposes to her. Will Stephanie date Frank, marry Albert, or neither. She needs to choose by New Year's.

Breakfast at Stephanie's is an enjoyable contemporary character study starring a warm protagonist who wants to do the right thing for her beloved son, herself, and her career, but has no idea what that is as what is good for one is not necessarily good for the other. This exclusiveness makes her decision difficult, but Stephanie is a solid trouper even if she detests starring as Mrs. Claus. Though the action is limited, readers will appreciate this fine look at a struggling performer.
