This final installment of the “Guests of War” trilogy is narrated by Gavin Sykes who is now ten years old. It is late 1944, and after five years of living with the wealthy Ogilvie family in Toronto, Canada, the war appears to be ending and Gavin and his fifteen year old sister Norah will soon be returning to their parents in England.
Norah is eager to return home, but Gavin – who barely remembers his biological family – is not. He doesn't want to leave the life he's become used to in Canada – particularly his two best friends and his dog. In the end, Gavin is forced to choose between returning to his barely remembered life in England, and the life he has come to love in Canada. | ||
