This story is a fictionalised account of twelve year old Nannerl Mozart – real life sister of famous composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The story details the siblings' joint European tour. Like her brother, Nannerl is a gifted musician and composer, though being older than Mozart, she is somewhat dwarfed by his talent. In addition, as a girl, Nannerl is not able to take advantage of the same opportunities as her brother. She is not permitted to learn to play the violin – a traditionally male instrument – despite the fact that she is she seems immediately adept at any instrument she tries her hand at. Nannerl's secret wish is to become a famous composer and during her European tour she composes in secret. Though she loves her brother, Nannerl struggles with her jealously over his abilities and popularity as well as with her dissatisfaction with her lot as a young woman in the patriarchal eighteenth century. | ||
