| After the death of her father, Alma and her mother are forced to move from their farm to town. Her mother is now a waitress struggling to make ends meet. Luckily, Alma is a lover of books and easily retreats into them to escape the realities of her everyday life. Her favourite author is R.R. Hawkins and she has all his books.
When Alma's teacher notices her neat handwriting, she recommends Alma for a job transcribing letters for a reclusive old woman who has recently moved to town. “Miss Lily,” is particular and cold at first, but Alma eventually bonds with her and the two form a strong friendship based on their mutual love of books. Alma aspires to be a writer and begins to depend on Miss Lily for criticism and acceptance. As Alma transcribes Miss Lily's letters, she begins to unravel the mystery of who this old woman is and why she is so secretive about her past. At the same time, Alma attempts to unravel the mystery of R.R.Hawkins who dropped from the public eye after publishing his first series of books and hasn't been heard from since. In this story of friendship and trust, Alma becomes convinced that her new mentor and her favourite writer are one and the same. | ||
