Jesse Aarons' greatest ambition is to be the fastest runner in the fifth grade class. Unfortunately, the school year begins and a new student – a new girl student – insists on running with the boys and beats him. The two students – Jesse and Leslie Burke become inseparable friends. Leslie is quirky and unusual and doesn't fit in well in Jesse's town, but Jesse doesn't care. He likes that Leslie is different.
Together the two kids begin playing a make believe game about the magical kingdom of Terabithia. They swing over a creek on a rope swing to enter their kingdom where they imagine they rein and King and Queen. When a tragedy befalls one of the friends the other struggles to overcome grief and to understand a world where life goes on, even after things sometimes go horribly wrong. | ||
