Book Review By Jack Goodstein
Mozart in Vienna, 1781-1791 by Volkmar Braunbehrens

This biography deals with Mozart's last ten years, when he leaves his salaried post in Salzburg to seek greater fortune in Vienna. It discusses his marriage to Costanze, his membership in the Freemasons, all of the operas composed during this period, as well as the life of a composer and musician during the later part of the 18th century. The author spends some time debunking some of the Mozart myths: his burial in a pauper's grave and his relationship with Salieri, for example.
