Elderly Englishman Digby Wilton knows he has had the opportunity to live a most fortunate life having been an heir to a bone china manufacturing firm fortune. However, he also grew up inside a gilded cage so except for time in the military and business he had restricted contact with much of the world. Thus, Digby can understand why his marriage to a Maltese immigrant, failed; she was a spicy extrovert while he was reticent introvert and ultimately left him. His son Theo, a spoiled loser, blames his own failures on Digby.

Digby found some consolation with aging actress Daisy Gresham, his neighbor, but she has her own child problem as her crazy son Howard writes violent online articles including bomb-making 101 and more advanced techniques. Of course, when Theo's wife tosses him out, he naturally blames his father. Theo just wants to play his music not caring if others pay the piper. All Digby has left is two centuries of family tradition with Wilton Bone China and the knowledge that in the end it will probably end with him.
