Book Review By Jack Goodstein
Autobiography by John Stuart Mill

John Stuart Mill's Autobiography takes him from his child hood to his relationship with Harriet Taylor. It concentrates on his early education in which his father recognizing his genius prepared him to follow in his footsteps as a disciple of the Untilitarian philosopher, Jeremy Bentham. He describes the breakdown he experienced as a result of his mechanical adherence to Benthamism and his eventual recovery when he discovers, through the poetry of Wordsworth, the importance of the feelings and emotions in addition of strict logic.
