The Silence of The Lambs by Thomas Harris

Clarice Starling, a student at the F. B. I Academy, is summoned by Jack Crawford, Chief of the F.B.I's Behavioral Sciences, to interview famed killed Hannibal Lecter. As Starling travels to the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane, where Lecter is kept, she finds herself disturbed by her interviews with the serial killer. Lecter seems oddly kind to her, even as he is dangerous. He asks Starling personal questions but also reveals important information about Buffalo Bill, a serial killer currently sought by the F.B.I. As Clarice struggles with the personal problems Lecter's questions dredge up, she races to uncover the identity of Buffalo Bill and save the young woman he has trapped in his basement. Along the way, Starling encounters the misogyny of the F.B.I. and her own ambiguous feelings towards Jack Crawford.
