Eddie Carbone, the central figure of Arthur Miller's modern tragedy, "A View From the Bridge," is a longshoreman. He is married and his 17 year old niece, Catherine, lives with his family. Two distant relatives come without papers from Italy to work on the docks, and they board with the Carbones. Catherine falls in love with the younger one, and Eddie has to face the fact that he is attracted to the young girl and is jealous. He tries to stop the young people from seeing each other, but is unsuccessful. Consumed by his passion he betrays the two men to the authorities. | ||
