FitzGibbons begins with Dylan Thomas's childhood in Wales and makes the point that much of his most famous poetry was written before he was twenty. Early on he began leading a wild life fueled by alcohol. His first love affair with Pamela Hanford Johnson came to an end when she tried to get him to reform. He then met and married Caitlen Macnamara, a woman as wild as he was. They had constant money problems, and after WWII, he came to America to take advantage of the lecture circuit. He was very popular because of his wild man reputation, a reputation he did his best to live up to. He died in New York in November, 1953. | ||
