Book Review By David Fletcher
Redneck Riviera by Dennis Covington

Dennis Covington writes about his mid-life search for spirituality, peace and closure on a chapter of his father's failed American dream. A small plot of land purchased by his dad in the 50's has gone unutilized until the author seeks to find his own nirvana in the swampland of central Florida.

What the author finds is a landscape of wholesale fraud perpetrated by the infamous Levitt brothers with the approval of county and municipal governments in Florida during the 50's and 60's. Worse still is the fact that corruption and fraud are being perpetuated by squatters and "sportsmen" who have claimed the land for their own use against the legitimate claims of deed holders.

It is a sad and infuriating story of land developer greed, good ole boy/redneck intimidation, and inept and corrupt southern politics.

Mr. Covington writes from the heart, revealing his past and present condition. He takes numerous risks to his own personal safety to uncover the facts behind the River Ranch Acres, a never developed resort community in the swampy wooded wilds of Florida. He leaves us still searching for a happy ending, but at least blows the whistle on those individuals at River Ranch Acres, shameless in their wrongdoing and deserving of public exposure and criminal prosecution.
