Book Review By David Fletcher
The Sylvan Path by Gary Ferguson

Gary Ferguson, a former forest ranger, shows his love for his subject in The Sylvan Path: A Journey Through America's Forests. The book is not only about his own exploration of the woods in which he made his living but the intimate relationship that others have with them as well. He spends time with Native Americans, sportsmen, moon shiners, loggers, etc., whose lives are tied to the forests. They share a close spiritual bond with nature that Ferguson is trying to impart to his readers.

He travels around the country in a quest for answers and even questions about the woods and their meaning. His writing is subtle and eloquent while his subject is vast and timeless. Mr. Ferguson has captured the spirit of the forest and the need to treasure natures gifts without preaching guilt or becoming maudlin.
