Ammie, Come Home by Barbara Michaels

When Ruth's niece, Sara, comes to stay for the summer, strange things begin occurring in Ruth's ancestral Georgetown home. A mysterious voice keeps calling, "Ammie, come home." Neither Ruth nor Sara know anyone by the name, and they are the only people staying in the house. Involving professor Pat MacDougal, who awakens feelings in Ruth she had thought long-lost, and his assistant, Bruce, in the search, Ruth and Sara delve into the history of the house. None of the four believes in ghosts, until they unearth information on Amanda Douglass and her young death, over a hundred years before. When the individuals in the house begin channeling Ammie and the men in her life, things become even stranger, until Ruth, Sara, Bruce, and Pat are spiraling into a horrific adventure with a terrifying ending that finally reveals the truth of young Ammie's premature death.
