Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All by Allan Gurganus

99 year old Lucy Mardsen, wheelchair bound resident at a nursing home, tells her life story in this book. Married at fifteen to a fifty year old Civil War vet, Willie Marsden, Lucy is thrust into the role of wife and mother. Lucy, full of experience and information collected over 90 years, recounts tales of her husband's life as a 13 year old confederate soldier and of the events that shape her future marriage to him. Spunky, wise, and funny, the old lady reveals all concerning her life, the lives of her friends and relations, southern culture, race relations, wealth and poverty, and how war changes everything.
