Salvatore Guiliano is just a simple peasant living in 1940's Sicily, barely in his twenties. One day, he and his friend Gaspare Pisciotta are stopped by the local police and arrested for smuggling contraband. Killing the police, they escape into the mountains surrounding their hometown of Montelepre.
Guiliano raids a prison and frees dozens of bandits. He also hijacks a black-market caravan, the proceeds of which are given to the poor, Guiliano earns himself a reputation as a bandit who is at once feared and beloved by the peasantry. But mere notoriety is not enough for Guiliano. Before long he has made enemies, not only of the police, but also of the Mafia and the Catholic Church, having dared to rob noblemen under the protection of Don Croce Malo, the boss of bosses, and even to kidnap the powerful and feared Cardinal of Palermo! Soon, hope for Guiliano's survival arrives in the person of Michael Corleone, the son of Don Vito Corleone, the infamous Godfather. Michael, who is set to return to America after five years of exile in Sicily, is to bring Guiliano with him to New York City. Now, it is a race against time for Salvatore Guiliano. Can he reach the landing strip where Michael's airplane waits in time to escape to America? | ||
