Book Review By Jack Goodstein
Diaries: 1939-1960 by Christopher Isherwood

Christopher Isherwood, most famous as the author of "I Am a Camera," emigrated to the United States in 1939 seeking a new life in California. His diaries describe his homoerotic love affairs with Bill Caskey and Don Bachardy, his friendships with writers such as Thomas Mann, Bertolt Brecht, Tennessee Williams and others, as well as actors like Garbo and Charlie Chaplin. He also tells of his faith in the Hindu religion and his pacifism in World War II.
