Not Quite Human: A Bug in the System by Seth McEvoy

To see how well androids can function in human society, Dr. Jonas Carson creates an artificial "son" named Chip and enrolls him in high school. The family runs into trouble when Dr. Carson is accused of stealing money electronically from a bank. As Chip tries to figure out a way to clear his father, he develops an additional problem when Erin, one of his classmates, develops a crush on him and comes close to discovering his secret. When Chip discovers the real criminals, he inadvertently puts himself and his friends in danger as he tries obtaining the evidence to save his father.
