Book Review By David Fletcher
Hunted: A True Story of Survival by David Fletcher

In Hunted: A True Story of Survival, David Fletcher tells his own harrowing tale of mountain climbing in the Alaskan wilderness and getting on the bad side of a large and vengeful grizzly bear. In the early 90's Mr. Fletcher, a former British royal marine, decides to return to Alaska to hike and climb Mt. Hess in a remote region by himself. His ten day journey takes a tragic turn early on when he accidentally kills a small bear cub and incurs the wrath of it's understandably very angry mother, a large scarred grizzly bear.

What follows in his tale of adventure gone terribly awry is the stuff of horror films; a dopey young victim caught up in own world not paying attention to the events around him, gets into frightening situations, continues to ignore warning signs, has multiple encounters with monster, finally manages to barely get away. In the midst of his encounters he still finds the frame of mind to complete his assent to the peak of Mt. Hess, survives bitter cold weather and a rapidly dwindling supply of food, and enjoys a bit of "trundling", sunbathing and boot skiing.

The novel is part ice mountain climbing adventure and part survival thriller. The descriptions are breath taking of the panoramic scenery, the dizzying heights, the brutal animal savagery of nature, and the sit on the edge of your seat encounters with the grizzly.
