Book Review By Judy Bell
To the Ends of the Earth by Elizabeth Lowell

Travis Danvers is a very wealthy ship designer who reluctantly agrees with his best friend, Rodney Harrington, to write a book about his life and his ships. Rodney Harrington is Catherine Cochran's agent. She is a professional photographer and Rodney gets her the photography job for The Danvers Touch which will be the name of the biography.

Travis was burned badly by a woman in the past and thinks that there isn't a woman alive on earth who isn't out to use him for his money. He swears that he will never marry again unless it is to a woman as rich as he is who very much wants to have his child, unlike his first wife who aborted his child before he could stop her. Catherine was married when she was too young to know better to a rich man who thought she was sterile and treated her cruelly after he found out that she was the reason they weren't succeeding in getting her pregnant. He beat her and cursed her and she left him and has never trusted another man or even shown remote interest in another man since.

By chance, before Catherine and Travis can get together for business purposes concering the book, they meet and each doesn't realize who the other is. There is definite chemistry between them. Sparks fly immediately. However, even though the sparks are flying they insult each other and fight continously because of each other's mistrust of the opposite sex. Travis thinks she is just another woman out for all she can get from a man financially. She turns him on as no woman ever has before, and vise versa. She is put off by his blunt and rude comments about women in general, however, they manage to get past this and begin a relationship that sizzles from beginning to end. They break each others rules, her about not mixing men and business and he about not mixing women with anything but business. However, as she is falling deeply in love with him, he still mistrusts her because she is a struggling photographer who is putting her twin siblings through medical school and on the verge of bankruptcy. He constantly tries to buy her but she is a woman who cannot be bought. He eventually does gain her trust after many trials and arguments about love and money.

Then she gets pregnant after having told him she was sterile which is the only truth she knew. She is ecstatic, very thankful for her miracle of pregnancy. He is enraged. His past comes back to haunt him and he cannot see past the lesson he thought he had learned with his first wife who aborted their child. He automatically assumes that Catherine lied to him and has been acting all along, telling her that she should have went onstage and then her money problems would have been overwith. Can their love survive? Can she regain his trust somehow or get over the cruel and bitter things he accused her of when she told him she was pregnant?
