Book Review By Jack Goodstein
Tom: The Unknown Tennessee Williams by Lyle Leverich

Leverich deals with the early life of Tennessee Williams up to 1945 and his success with "The Glass Menagerie." He describes the problems with his family life, a domineering father, an over protective mother, and a sister with mental problems. He also discusses Williams' problems with his sexual orientation. Very early in his life, Williams discovered his writing talent, and used it as a way to escape from the limitations of his life at home. Much of the material for "The Glass Menagerie" seems to have come from his relations with his mother and sister.
