The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn

Anthony Briderton, a viscount, decides it's time to marry and produce an heir.   After discussing his plans with his astonished brothers (Anthony is a notorious rake), he learns the diamond of the season is 17 year old Edwina Sheffield, so he sets out to court her. Anthony learns though that Edwina has vowed only to marry a man her sister, Kate Sheffield, approves.
Kate, a 21 year old, has always lived in the shadow of her younger sister's overwhelming beauty, bringing her self-confidence so low she decides not to marry at all but instead age into spinsterhood. Kate, who is outspoken and overprotective of her little sister, feels that Anthony is to much of a rake and would only hurt her sister, so tells him she disapproves of his courtship.
Anthony and Kate battle throughout the book, even though both feel their anger growing into passion. Kate begins to feel for Anthony but tamps down her unrequited desire. Anthony desires Kate, but tells himself that Edwina is the more logical, safer choice for a wife. Each fight the growing love that is taking over their hearts.
