Book Review By Buddy Davis
Trouble At Lazy Wells by Roy Davis Merritt

Sundiate Kiente is an African prince brought to America as a nine year old slave. He was bought by an abolitionist preacher and given his freedom. The story begins with the preacher being murdered while trying to help a young Mexican being hanged by miscreants.

When Sundi finds the body of his adoptive father he has no choice but to find the men who did it and make them pay. He has a dilemma. He knows the preacher's feelings about revenge and he finds a witness, a young white girl buried in the snow.

When Drexel Cornelius, the leader of the outlaw gang, learns that Sundi has the only witness to his murderous plot to steal land from the Cheyenne, he puts up a bounty of $5,000. While he hopes murderous bounty-killers will kill Sundi, he has plans of his own. His men will make sure the girl won't live to tell the truth.
