Shopaholic Ties The Knot by Sophie Kinsella

Shopaholic Londoner Becky Bloomwood has moved to Manhattan where she is happily sharing a West Village apartment with her businessman boyfriend Luke. She also loves her new job as personal shopper at Barney's. Together with Luke, she returns to UK to attend her best friend Suzie's wedding but keeps quiet about her own dreams of one day getting married. In a surprise move, Luke proposes to her in front of all the wedding guests which number Becky's parents among them.

Overjoyed at this unexpected development, Becky's mother speedily begins planning a backyard wedding accompanied by all the overblown finery her middle-class tastes can dream up of. Always a connoisseur of fine stuff and with her tastes particularly sharpened by time spent in New York city, Becky inwardly shudders at this but keeps silent so as not to hurt her mother's feelings.

They return to New York where Luke's Manhattan socialite mother offers them an all-paid, much-in-demand glamorous wedding at the Plaza hotel. This is the sort of Cinderella-wedding that Becky had always hoped to have. So, despite her dislike of Luke's mom, Becky weakly accepts her offer. Now, unable to refuse either woman, Becky finds herself facing the prospect of having two weddings, on the same date, on different continents.
