Book Review By L. Watson
Uncommon Vows by Mary Jo Putney

In 12th century England, Adrian of Warfield, Earl of Shropshire, thinks Meriel de Vere is a poacher in the forest. Not wanting to get her family in trouble during this time of civil war, she does not tell Adrian who she really is. He holds her captive in his castle and tries to coerce the beautiful Meriel into becoming his mistress. Even when he proposes marriage, Meriel wants so strongly to escape that she throws herself out a window.

The fall from the window causes amnesia. Meriel can no longer remember she fears Adrian, and instead, falls in love and marries him. Adrian is now able to love Meriel in return, but their love is threatened when Meriel's memory returns.
