An Unacceptable Offer by Mary Balogh

Jane Matthews does not have great marriage prospects since she is not wealthy, titled or beautiful, but she is pleasant, capable with children and not a social butterfly. Michael Templeton, Viscount Fairfax is looking for a second wife. He married his first wife for love and then discovered they had no interests in common. She hated life in the country and had no interest in raising their two girls. This time, Michael proposes marriage to the surprised Jane telling her he does not want to marry for love, but wants to marry her because she shares his interests. Jane has been in love with the handsome Michael since she met him when he was courting his first wife. She wants to marry for love so refuses his unacceptable offer.

But then Jane is invited to Michael's country estate where she comes to adore his two daughters and to realize he asked her to marry him out of the best of motives.
