The Wood Nymph by Mary Balogh

William Mainwaring goes to his country estate to recover from the heartbreak of losing the woman he was courting. When wandering in the woods, he meets Helen Wade, who he thinks is a village girl. She is completely unworldly and interested only in art. William finds her friendship soothing and gently seduces her.

When William later realizes she is the daughter of his aristocratic neighbor, he flees to London in a panic. Helen is dragged to London by her family where she meets up with William again. This time, Helen is hostile to William. William realizes he is in love with her and must redeem himself in her eyes.
