Miss Gordon's Mistake by Anita Mills

Kitty Gordon is an American orphan sent to live with relatives in
England. She is not terribly happy but she thinks she can help her cousin Jessica. Jessica was married in name only to old Baron Haverhill six years before. She had not seen him since. Kitty decides to force Haverhill to give Jessica a divorce so Jessica can marry Charles, the man she loves.

Armed with a pistol, Kitty goes to Haverhill's mansion and abducts the baron, who is surprisingly younger and more handsome than she thought he would be. Before she can learn anything more about Haverhill, he is shot during a highway robbery. Kitty saves Haverhill's life and when Jessica finally gets a look at him, they discover this is not the same Haverhill.

Kitty and Haverhill are falling in love as she nurses him to full health, but to avoid scandal, Kitty has become betrothed to Charles, who she does not want to marry and who Jessica does want to marry.
