The wealthy Hubbard brothers have a deal to bring a textile mill to their town which will make them even wealthier. They want their sister's husband, Horace, to contribute a third of the money to get a controlling share of the company for the family. Regina, their sister, wants to do it, but Horace, who has been sick and is dying, refuses.

One of the brother's sons, who works at the bank, steals some of Horace's securities to use as collateral. When Horace finds out, he tells Regina. She wants to use the information to get an even larger share of the mill, but Horace refuses. But when Horace has an attack, she withholds his medicine and he collapses.
