Book Review By Reginald D. Garrard
Middle School Blues by Lou Kassem

Cindy Cunningham is starting on her first year of middle school. Following the death of her beloved grandmother, the girl is filled with apprehension and fear, as she starts at a new school, complete with heightened responsibilities and the challenge of making new friends.

Her older sisters, Ellen and Grace, are off to college, leaving Cindy as the "only child" under the overprotective care of her parents. Besides dealing with that situation, the girl must contend with the growing pains of adolescence and the need to "fit in". Cindy contends with class snob Brandy and her clique of friends, band tryouts, and a math teacher known as "The Killer".

Her friends Becca, Margo, Jeff, and Andrea are there to help and share the problems of adolescence. A surprise revelation about the principal and a teacher, as well as a runaway event, are some of the other "blues" facing Cindy in this very amusing and entertaining book.
