David Goldberg is a university librarian. He is hired by Alan Stowe, an elderly millionaire, to be his part-time private librarian. Stowe is financing the re-election campaign of the conservative Republican president, Gus Scott. Scott is running against the Democrat Anne Lynn Murphy.
President Scott's re-election team also includes Jack Morgan, a top official in the Homeland Security Department, who is not afraid to use the resources of the department in the service of the campaign. When Murphy begins to do better in the polls, Morgan suspects that the Murphy campaign has planted spies in the Scott campaign. He suspects Goldberg. Morgan uses his beautiful wife, Niobe, to try to catch Goldberg. When Goldberg is forced to go on the run, he discovers dangerous secrets about the re-election campaign. | ||
