Book Review By Susanna Marlowe
John F. Kerry by Michael Kranish

John Kerry was the son of a foreign service officer. He spent most of his young childhood in Europe, including boarding school in Switzerland. For high school, he lived at the exclusive boarding school St. Paul's in Massachusetts. Then, he attended Yale.

After Yale, he enlisted as an officer in Vietnam. He won several medals for his service. He was disturbed by the war, and became the leader of Vietnam Veterans Against the War when we returned home.

He then went to Boston College Law School. He was a prosecutor, then a lawyer in private practice. However, he had always wanted to be a politician. When he got the chance to run for the senate from Massachusetts in 1984, he grabbed it. He won. He remained in the Senate up through his presidential campaign in 2004, where he lost to George Bush.
