Love Lies by Mary Janice Davidson

Victor Lawrence meets Ashley Lorentz when she literally runs into him with a wheel chair while he is visiting the mental hospital he is thinking of making a large donatation to. Although at first, he thinks Ashley is a patient at the hospital, he soon learns that she is just quirky, fun and totally unimpressed by his wealth. He thinks she is an antidote to his ex-wife and they begin dating.

One evening, Ashley is at Victor's home to look after him because he has a concussion. He starts making love to her but Ashley is put off because he calls by his ex-wife's name. But Victor is delusional, does not respond and has sex with Ashley against her will. Victor cannot remember what happened. Ashley is so upset she disappears from his life.

When Victor's friend discovers Ashley is pregnant, Victor gets Ashley to marry him on the basis that she is poor and he needs to look after his unborn child. Victor tries to do everything to win Ashley's forgiveness and win her love. Ashley tries to resist as she tries to decide whether to forgive Victor.
