Rollerball (2002) by

ROLLERBALL is a film directed by John McTiernan in 2002. It's the remake of the 1975 Norman Jewison film based on a short story by William Harrison.

Jonathan Cross accepts to sign a contract with Alexis Petrovich, the man who invented the rollerball game. Rollerball is a new and violent game involving motorcyclists and rollerbladers. It's played for the moment only in the former Russian republics but with a tremendous success. When Jonathan notices that Petrovich wants the game to become even more violent in order to get bigger TV market shares, he decides to leave his team and the country with his old friend Marcus Ridley. But Petrovich catches up with them just before the frontier, kills Ridley and brings Jonathan back to the city.
