This book is the fourth sequel to the Anne of Green Gables novels. Presently engaged to her true love and childhood friend Gilbert Blythe, Anne Shirley is now a young woman in her mid-twenties. She takes up the job as Principal of a school in Summerside, a quaint seaside town on Prince Edward Island. For the next few years while Gilbert is at medical school studying to become a doctor, they mainly write each other and meet in their hometown Avonlea over the holidays and summer vacations. Windy Poplars, a charming old house owned by two widows and run by their housemaid Rebecca Dew, becomes Anne's surrogate home in Summerside. Whilst teaching at the school, she encounters problems mainly influenced by outside forces, specifically by the family which runs the town. Yet with wise use of her ingenuity and charm, Anne even wins over the proud Pringle family, as well as Katherine Brooke, the Vice-Principal who had always been so stiff and cool towards her. Her biggest triumph however is reuniting a little girl with her father. | ||
