Julie grows up in an abusive home and is forced to run away at sixteen. A man named Jim discovers her and offers her a job and a place to stay. Julie goes with him, becomes a hair stylist and falls in love with Jim. Soon after they are married Jim dies of a brain tumor and leaves Julie with a Great Dane she names Singer. When Julie finally starts to date again, Jim's best friend Mike becomes interested. Julie dates Richard Franklin, an engineer.
Julie becomes worried when Richard acts strangly when she breaks up with him to go out with Mike. Julie falls in love with Mike. Julie starts to notice Richard following her. Richard thinks Julie is meant to be with him. Mike and Richard get in a fight. The police get involved.
