| This book is the fifth installment of the Anne of Green Gables series. In this sequel the heroine Anne Shirley has to adjust to substantial changes in her personal life and to living away from her hometown. After four years of having worked as principal at a school in Summerside and having waited for her fiancé Gilbert Blythe to finish med school, she and Gilbert finally marry.
Her husband has been offered his uncle's practice in Four Wind's Harbor and the newlyweds move to their new home which is sixty miles away from their hometown Avonlea. Anne's house of dreams is an enchanting little dwelling close to the shore and far away from the towns with only few houses nearby. This is also where she becomes mother to a little baby boy. She finds friends in her neighbors: an old retired sea Captain Jim who operates the lighthouse nearby and helpful but man-hating Ms. Cornelia Bryant. However her challenge lies in befriending the mysterious Mrs. Leslie Moore who accepts her friendship but places a cold wall around her. Anne discovers the history behind Leslie's tragic life and it is only when Anne experiences her own tragedy of losing her first born that Leslie opens up to her.
