Lorna Doone by Richard Blackmore

During the reign of Charles II, John Ridd lives with his mother on their farm. Years earlier his father had been murdered by the Doones, a band of local outlaws.   During one of their raids, the Doones had captured a little girl whom they adopted and named Lorna.

One day while out in the country side Ridd meets and falls in love with Lorna, but when the outlaws find out about it, they declare war on him. Lorna runs away from the Doones and goes to live with Ridd and his mother.
