Guggenheim Museum volunteer docent Celeste Bennett escorts rich patrons on private tours. NASCAR champion Beau “Lightning Bolt” Lansing specifically asks for her to serve as his guide. Beau explains he wants her to donate a kidney to save the life of her biological father NASCAR legend Travis Chastaine. She wants nothing to do with the man who deserted her pregnant mother before she was born.

Beau cannot understand why she would refuse as he sees Travis as a kindhearted father figure. He persuades Celeste to at least learn first hand that Travis is not the irresponsible person she thinks he is. Her condition is to work undercover at Chastaine Motorsports, which Beau agrees to help her accomplish. As they argue over Travis' merits, Beau and Celeste fall in love; neither wants the deep feelings as he enjoys "Beau Babes" and she has broken three engagements because she has doubts about relationships.
