Book Review By Jenn Moss
Piece of Cake by Derek Robinson

Piece of Cake takes place in September of 1939 through to September of 1940 and closely follows the lives and deaths of members of Hornet Squadron during World War II. This is the story of an assorted young group of Pilot Officers and their journey beginning in England, travelling through France, and their airflight missions to Germany. This includes a rather daunting bridge and the pilots who feel the need to "show-off" while flying nearby it.

Riddled with sarcastic humour, it tells the tale of a rugged bunch of Brits and one Yank, who will do almost anything to make their time in the RAF that much more interesting, including stealing tractors and horses, often times a little more than inebriated while trying to complete their latest stunt.

The use of both British and military jargon may make this novel a little hard to understand for those who are not familiar with either but is definately well worth a read. Piece of Cake was later made into a 6 part series for television.
