Well Groomed by Fiona Walker

In this sequel to French Relations, Tash French and her boyfriend, Niall, celebrate Christmas with her extended eccentric family. When Tash finds a ring in her Christmas cracker, her stepfather's mother thinks it is an engagement ring and tells everyone that Tash and Niall are getting married. Before they can tell everyone they are not, Tash and Niall find themselves involved in preparations for a wedding.

But while some of her family are happily preparing for a wedding, Tash and Niall are still trying to cement their relationship. Niall's acting jobs takes him away for long stretches as does Tash's competition in horse eventing, triathalon for horses, as she calls it. Tash is also distracted by her neighbour, Hugo, who is also an eventer and who keeps treating Tash unkindly and making fun of her long infatuation with him when she was a teenager. Meanwhile, Lisette, Niall's ex-wife, shows up trying to get Niall involved in her latest film project. Tash's employers are having financial difficulties and Tash needs to succeed in competitions to help out. Tash tries to get Hugo interested in Zoe, the warm hearted cook. Niall starts to show signs of a drinking problem. Matty, Tash's brother, voices his objections to the marriage.

Tash and Niall's relation begins to show cracks as they spend less and less time with each other and find things to argue about. Tash suspects she is not over her obsession with Hugo. But the wedding plans march on.
