The Welcoming by Nora Roberts

Roman DeWinter is an undercover investigator trying to find the person running a crime ring out of a hotel run by Charity Ford. He tricks Charity into hiring him as a handyman, and goes about his investigation. He soon realizes that Charity couldn't be involved, and he sets out to prove her innocent and seduce her.

Roman and Charity fall madly in love, but Roman hates that he isn't being honest about who is really is. He wants to ask her to marry him, but it doesn't seem right. When he finally tells her, on the day when the crime ring leader is to be taken down, she is furious and hurt.

The take down goes as planned, until the leader grabs Charity and holds her hostage in the kitchen. Will Roman be able to save the woman he loves and if so, will he win back her trust?
